The International Computer Olympiad uses CodeCombat
On June 23, 2021, the International Informatics Olympiad held in Singapore used CodeCombat, an international youth programming learning and competition platform based on game scenarios. Informatics Olympiad national team contestants from 87 countries demonstrated their programming skills through the CodeCombat multiplayer arena. After six hours of fierce competition, 16 contestants entered the final. The National University of Singapore awarded honorary scholarships to the top four in the CodeCombat special competition.
“As engineers who developed the CodeCombat AI Algorithm Arena, we are honored to have CodeCombat selected for such a top global computer competition for middle school students,” said Valentin Briukhanov, CodeCombat’s global chief architect. This proves that games can be both a powerful tool for programming learning and a creative platform. "
The contestant's code will determine which game characters will be summoned and how these characters will participate in the algorithmic competition. The innovative AI competition simulator will run the code of all competitors to determine which algorithmic strategies and tactics will win. The competition consists of multiple rounds, during which participants are allowed to continuously improve their code to improve its ability to counter their opponents' strategies.
Combination of creativity and skills
"Coding competitions or hackathons are not new," said Nick Winter, CEO of CodeCombat. "Our continued evolution of algorithm competitions inspired us to develop the CodeCombat AI League, a unique algorithm competition that encourages contestants to write more creative code."
The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) brings together the best young people from all over the world. The top four in the world will receive rewards. This year's Algorithm Arena competition in cooperation with CodeCombat will be held on June 23, 2021. As the regional strategic partner of CodeComba, Hong Kong Qi Han Technology Education will be responsible for organizing and implementing this special event.
Close collaboration with partners such as Hong Kong Qihan Technology Education and the National University of Singapore has opened the door for us to work with top global competitions such as IOI. CodeCombat CEO Wang Chengcang said, "IOI is a respected platform, and CodeCombat can become one of IOI's special events to further promote our common mission of popularizing programming education around the world."
An influence that cannot be underestimated
It is understood that CodeCombat continues to play an important role in youth programming competitions. The 2020 AI World Youth Championship hosted by CodeCombat attracted a total of 66,336 contestants from Greater China, making it one of the largest youth programming hackathons. In 2021, at the second Global Youth Turing Program co-organized by the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence of Renmin University of China, the Affiliated High School of Renmin University of China, and the Cultural and Technological Park of Renmin University of China, CodeCombat was selected as the designated platform for the general education group challenge activities and designed competition levels for Turing Program participants. In April 2021, the global CodeCombat AI League was launched, with 16,775 contestants from more than 60 countries and regions around the world participating, of which 5,240 participated in the AI League finals and competed for the spring championship.
